She received her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University in 1991 and her medical degree from Temple University in 2000. She completed her residency training at Thomas Jefferson University in 2004 in Philadelphia where she served as administrative chief resident. With a wealth of experience and a 17-year career spent in academic medicine where she trained residents as a faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Florida, she was recognized for her excellence as an educator as a 3-time recipient of the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) national faculty teaching award. Additionally, she served as a former oral board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She decided to become board certified in Lifestyle Medicine because she believes that the pillars of Lifestyle Medicine can help any motivated individual take control over and improve their health with appropriate guidance. She has personally found better health and fitness in her 50’s than she had in her 20’s and 30’s and is passionate about using evidence-based lifestyle change to help you achieve your health goals. She also knows that life’s transition into menopause can be a time of confusion for many women, who often hear conflicting information about how best to navigate this time in their lives. As a certified menopause practitioner, she has additional skills and knowledge that complement her experience as an OBGYN to help you make decisions that are right for you. Beyond her medical expertise, Dr. Byun is a competitive age-group triathlete who began her foray into triathlon at the age of 43. She proudly represents the United States in international competitions for Team USA and is a multi-time Age Group All-American, ranking in the top 10% of her age group nationally.
